Volunteer

Become a volunteer

Emmy Monash volunteers range in age from 16 to 95; some are our own residents. They come from both the Jewish and wider communities and include students, professionals, home-makers, retirees and Board members.

Why you matter

At Emmy Monash, we value EVERY volunteer. Without the generosity and commitment of these individuals, we would not be able to deliver the exceptional care and wellbeing programs that we have become recognised for. Our volunteers form the integral link between Emmy Monash and the broader community. They enrich the lives of our residents and exemplify the infinite strengths of individuals and groups in our community. When you become a volunteer at Emmy Monash, you have the opportunity to share your skills as part of a warm and supportive team.

The benefits

You will become part of our warm, inclusive and diverse organisation.

We understand that everyone has commitments, so we are flexible to suit your interests and lifestyle. It is important that each volunteer feels welcomed into our organisation, so we offer comprehensive orientation program and ongoing support. Our volunteers say they gain much more than they give.

“Volunteering is an opportunity to help people achieve their goals and actively give back to the community. I love it”
- Leanne Ruben, Occupational Therapy student

How you can contribute

There are so many options for volunteering at Emmy Monash – you can support fully independent residents in our apartments or those who require more support. Participate directly by helping us with the huge range of group activities; become a friend of someone lonely; or read to someone who is visually impaired. Alternatively, you may choose to use your creative skills in the comfort of your own home by assisting with the running of our programs and events or assist with marketing or graphic design.

Activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Personal training
  • Tai chi
  • Yoga and relaxation
  • Israeli dancing
  • Art and craft
  • Politics and history discussions
  • Shiurim
  • Challah baking
  • Celebration of Jewish Festivals
  • Diverse outings
  • Musical performances
  • Assisting in the Felder Family Café
  • Photography and filming
  • Reading

Please be advised that due to COVID-19, we are unable to have volunteers on-site at Emmy for now. However, we have a growing number of volunteers who have contributed to our organisation in a virtual setting. If this is something you are interested in, we would love to hear from you!
