Our Story

Emmy Monash Aged Care is a place where you can expect excellence in care, advanced lifestyle programs and guaranteed peace of mind.

Through our holistic approach, we have a well-established reputation for providing the highest standards of clinical care. We are also known for our award-winning programs; with a diverse range of activities available, there is something enjoyable for everyone at Emmy.

Located at the heart of Melbourne's Jewish community, our state of the art facility offers independent living, residential aged care and respite services, in a warm and supportive environment. When you chose to make Emmy your home, you have the freedom to plan the next stage of your life, in comfort and with confidence.

History

In 1941, a strong and visionary group of Jewish women established a special place for older members of Melbourne’s Jewish community. These dedicated women, including our founder Emmy Monash, worked around the clock to deliver food and provide care and companionship to the frail and elderly in their own homes while rallying tirelessly for community support.

An important turning point was purchasing an old boarding house on Dandenong Road, Caulfield in 1948. This was pivotal; it allowed our founders to fulfil their underlying dream of creating “A Home away from Home”, for Melbourne's Jewish seniors. It was only a matter of time before our organisation quickly faced increasing demand and expanded to accommodate more residents

Since then, the provision of aged care has changed significantly over time, shaped by community need, new technology, government policy and advances in medical knowledge. Evolving to offer respite care and apartment living in addition to residential care, Emmy Monash Aged Care has moved with the times and continually adapted its services and accommodation to deliver the best possible experience, while still preserving the same core values in honour of our inspirational founder.

We continue to challenge the stereotype that quality of life diminishes with age and focus strongly on positive ageing. We are proud of our holistic approach to care, as well as our innovative wellbeing programs that engage schools, synagogues and many other community groups.

Our Vision

Our vision is to enrich the lives of our residents by providing an outstanding level of care and, at the same time, engaging the broader Emmy Monah family: our staff, supporters, volunteers, and the community as we continue to grow.

Our Mission

Our mission is to deliver the best quality care to seniors in our Jewish community now and in the future.

Our Philosophy

Our connection to the Jewish community is integral to our identity. We offer the traditions, culture and practices of Judaism.

We have the greatest respect for our residents, their families, and our staff and volunteers.

We are committed to providing older people in our community with different opportunities for care and a safe, nurturing environment.

We provide so much more than accommodation and clinical care. Our attention to each person’s happiness, family, community, and right to live well will be evident, every day.

We want our amazing staff to be their best, knowing that their input is valued and their professional development is supported.

We value the contribution of our volunteers, donors, service partners and the wider community, who help us achieve our mission.
