GOVERNANCE AND COMPLIANCE
For us, good governance is more than going beyond minimal requirements.
It means exceeding standards, performing well in reviews, and upholding the highest levels of quality control. This is a philosophy we have championed since our foundation – our residents and families deserve nothing less.
We welcomed the new Aged Care Quality Standards, which came into effect on 1 July 2019. Most of these policies and procedures were already firmly embedded into our organisation, so we have just perfected our current approach.
Even in the face of COVID-19 restrictions, we continued to demonstrate the highest quality compliance across all areas of our organisation. In the words of a representative from the Victorian Aged Care Response team, our outbreak response plan was “exemplary”.
In the world of uncertainty created by the pandemic, one thing remained certain – our due diligence. As an organisation, we are incredibly proud to have remained COVID-19 free. This was achieved by our proactive approaches, including:
- Formulated an infection Control Response Team
- Consulting regularly with industry bodies and leading experts
- Offering onsite asymptomatic COVID-19 testing to all staff
- Providing comprehensive COVID-19 training for staff
- Developing our own response plan in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak
- Preparing a decommissioned building to care for any residents testing positive for COVID-19
- Communicating regularly and remaining transparent with all stakeholders, staff, residents and their families
Statement of Rights
-
The new Aged Care Act will include a Statement of Rights, outlining the rights that older people will have when accessing aged care services. The rights outlined in the Act help to ensure that older people and their needs are at the centre of the new aged care system.
The Statement of Rights include the right to:
- independence, autonomy, empowerment, and freedom of choice
- equitable access
- quality and safe funded aged care services
- respect for privacy and information
- person-centred communication and ability to raise issues without reprisal
- advocates, significant persons and social connections.
To view the full-length description of the Statement of Rights as presented in the Bill visit –Part 3 – Aged care rights and principles.

AGED CARE QUALITY STANDARDS
The new Aged Care Quality Standards came into effect on 1 July 2019. Applied to all government-subsidised aged care services providers, these new standards mark the start of a new era in our industry.
Delivering person-centred care has been embedded into our organisation well before these standards were introduced. In fact, our recent performance audit came back overwhelmingly positive; we not only complied with every requirement, but we exceeded them considerably. So for us, it is simply a matter of refining and enhancing our current approach.
