Tanya Abramzon - Chief Executive Officer Expand With extensive experience in nursing and management, Tanya has provided decisive and inspiring leadership for more than a decade as CEO of Emmy Monash Aged Care. Tanya has led Emmy’s development from a single building with 90 beds through to a multi-building facility with state of the art accommodation for over 170 beds, including 19 independent living apartments. She was a finalist in the award for CEO of the Year in the 2018 Australian Healthcare Week Awards and continues to ensure Emmy Monash leads the industry in innovation and excellence in care.
Joe Krampel AM - President Expand Joe was the founding partner of KNP Solutions, Chartered Accountants, which specialised in forensic accounting prior to his retirement. He also is a registered mediator. Joe’s communal activities have also extended over many years with Maccabi Vic (Life Member) and the Zionist Federation of Australia. Joe has been on the Board of Emmy Monash since 2003, and President since 2010. Joe was awarded a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia in the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Rod Nirens - Vice President Expand Rod heads up the Victorian Health business at Microsoft, and is responsible for providing thought leadership, vision, and strategy across the sector. He has a passion for applying technology to improve the overall clinical experience, with a focus on business technology risk and compliance. He has the drive to motivate individuals to achieve their very best supporting a strong team culture. Rod holds a number of IT related accreditations and is trained in media presentation. Rod is committed to the development of junior AFL football and has many years’ experience in both coaching and club administration.
Selwyn Greenberg - Treasurer Expand Selwyn is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and has operated an accounting practice in Malvern since 1987. It is literally a family practice which includes his wife Hannah, son Jay and daughter Bonnie, all qualified accountants. The Greenbergs service small-to-medium-sized businesses in accounting and income tax matters and assist high-wealth individuals with bookkeeping, income tax, superannuation and estate planning. Selwyn has been an active member of the Emmy Finance committee since 2009. In between his work and Emmy Monash commitments, and his five children and nine grandchildren Selwyn can be found playing golf at the Cranbourne Golf club when time permits.
Joel Beebe - Board Member Expand Having commenced his career at Merrill Lynch, Joel became a founding partner of Wingate, a leading Australian private markets finance and investment house. He is the co-Founder of Talaria Asset Management and is a CFA® charterholder and a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia. Joel brings two decades of investment and operational experience to the Emmy Monash Board and is a member of the Investment Committee. He has been involved with multiple community-based organisations and is a Life Member of the Maccabi-AJAX Cricket Club.
Lyn Borowski - Board Member Expand Lyn Borowski has a Bachelor of Economics at Monash University. Past professional experience includes setting up and managing several retail stores. Lyn has done voluntary work with Mount Scopus College since 1984, including planning and running fundraising events, heading the Parents Association and working with the school community in fundraising and awareness events. Lyn was appointed as a Council member then Executive member, and is now a Life Council member of the College. In 1998 Lyn was employed by the Jewish Museum of Australia as Events Coordinator for two years. Lyn remained at the Museum in a voluntary capacity planning events and promoting the Museum within and beyond the Jewish community. She was invited to join the Board of the Museum initially as Honorary Secretary, then remained as a Board member for a total of eight years contributing through fundraising and Development projects. Lyn has since assisted both East Melbourne Hebrew Congregation and Elwood Synagogue with celebrating milestone events at both synagogues. She is currently committed to spending time with her elderly mother who also lives in an Aged Care Home, as well as spending time with and caring for her grandchildren. She regularly visits her son and daughter in law who both made Aliyah and currently live in Tel Aviv. Lyn travels to different areas within Israel each time she visits.

Tom’s specialty is electrical and lighting design, multi discipline project leadership, spatial planning within high rise buildings and consulting office management. Tom chairs Emmy’s Building Committee and sits on the Apartments Committee.

George Greenberg - Board Member Expand A Board member since 2005, George is chairman of the Emmy’s Apartments Committee, chairman of the Selection Committee and a member of the Pharmacy Committee. George practised as a community and hospital pharmacist before opening a consultancy practice – Independent Pharmacy Consulting (IPC), advising hospitals, supporting residential-care facilities and correctional institutions throughout Australia on strategic planning, service re-structure and change implementation. Since retiring from practice, in addition to his Emmy Monash roles, George is a member of the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Quality and Safety/Exceptional Care Committee and is also active in pursuing a variety of social justice causes. In his spare time, he enjoys listening to and playing music, golf and reading. George and his wife Hani have two children and five grandchildren, and enjoy travel, entertaining and spending time together.
Jonathan Kramersh - Board Member Expand A senior equity partner of national firm HWL Ebsworth Lawyers, Jonathan is a commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution lawyer and insolvency law specialist. Jonathan is active in a wide range of Jewish and wider-community affairs. A member of the North Eastern Jewish War Memorial Centreand also a Board Representative for NEJWMC, Jonathan is involved with the Zionist Federation of Australia and a member of the Building and Finance Committee at the Central Community Centre. He also led the redevelopment of the NEJWMC Squash complex into a Jewish Day School.
Peter Lewinsky - Board Member Expand Peter, the son of former Emmy Monash president and Honorary Chief Executive Officer, the late Marianne Lewinsky, joined the board in 2003. He has operated a private investment banking and corporate advisory practice since 1991. This follows 10 years in investment banking and stockbroking, in Australia and internationally. Peter sits on the Boards of several publicly-listed companies and government agencies and has chaired a number of government committees. Peter is also involved in wider-community affairs.
Danny Lustig - Board Member Expand Danny has been a partner at Accountancy firm Lowe Lippmann for more than 27 years. Danny specialises in all aspects of accounting and taxation for individuals, partnerships, companies, trusts and superannuation funds. Danny is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and a member of CPA Australia. Many not-for-profit organizations have benefited from his work as Honorary Treasurer. He is married and has three children. His interests include cricket and collecting Don Bradman and Olympic memorabilia.
Rita Perelberg - Board Member Expand Rita Perelberg, an Emmy Monash Board member since 2003, has been active in the aged care industry for 30 years. She has been involved in the design and development of new facilities and the upgrading of existing facilities. Rita has experience in human resource management, accreditation, financial management, industrial relations and care standards. She is also active in Jewish community affairs.
Alan Synman OAM - Board Member Expand Alan Synman was a practising architect from 1968 to 2006. In 1976, he founded Synman Justin Bialek (SJB) Architects which has since become a prominent national architectural practice with offices in Melbourne and Sydney. SJB has expanded its areas of expertise in creating SJB Planning, SJB Interiors and SJB Urban practices. Together with SJB Architecture, these practices have received the highest professional industry and international awards for design excellence. In July 2000 SJB/FKA Architects was formed, an exciting initiative with Fender Katsalidis Architects, borne out of the involvement of both firms in the Melbourne Docklands NewQuay project. Since retirement, Alan has served on a number of PCG Committees to assist with building projects including Beth Weizman, Metropolitan Golf Club, Maccabi Victoria Tennis Club, the Jewish Holocaust Museum and Emmy Monash Aged Care. Alan continues to provide service to the Australian Institute of Architects as a National Councillor. Alan was Chair of the Jewish Museum of Australia Corporate Club from 2009 to 2012, he has been a Director of the Maccabi Victoria Foundation since 2005 and the principle driver of the Foundation Coaching Program and All Abilities, key initiatives since 2011. Alan was awarded an OAM in the 2017 New Year’s Honours list for services to the community and architecture.
Dr. Stephen Szental - Board Member Expand Stephen brings expert knowledge to the Board having worked as a General Practitioner in aged-care facilities including Emmy Monash for 37 years. Stephen has served on the Board for ten years and is a Life Member of Emmy Monash. Stephen has worked in general practice accreditation and has been a member of the local General Practice Division Board [Southcity Services] since its inception in 1995. A keen art enthusiast, Stephen likes to travel and spend time with his family and friends when time permits.
Dr. Karen Wayne OAM - Board Member Expand Karen Wayne is a Medical Practitioner, with Diplomas in Geriatric Medicine and Integrative (Complementary) Medicine, and has worked in General Practice and Aged Care for over three decades. An Emmy Monash Aged Care Board Member since 2002, and a Life Member since 2013, Karen has worked on Aged Care Panels in two Divisions of General Practice, and has been a Doctor working at the Royal Freemasons’ Homes of Victoria for 33 years. Other past and current voluntary community involvements include Board Member of the King David School, and of Temple Beth Israel, tutoring underprivileged children, volunteer work for the Australian Medical Association, and supporter of the Performing Arts in Victoria. She was awarded an Order of Australia in the 2018 Australia Day Honours List for services to the community in Victoria. Karen is married to Victor, they have two wonderful daughters, two delightful sons-in-law and two sweet granddaughters. Her other interests include reading, travel, and fitness.
